1. Data Controller
The data controller responsible for Hunch is Philipp Tschauner, Berlin, Germany. For any privacy-related question or request, contact hello@paperplanes.club.
2. What Data We Collect
Depending on which features of Hunch you use, we may process: basic device information (device type, OS version, anonymized identifiers) needed to run and support the App; usage data (such as which features are used) to understand what's working; and any content you directly enter into the App, which is stored on your device and, where a sync feature exists, in Apple's iCloud/CloudKit under your own Apple ID — not on our own servers.
We do not require account creation with an email or password, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
3. Permissions
Hunch may ask for the following device permissions, each only used for the purpose stated below — never sold or used for advertising:
— Camera or Photos — to read a menu or a photo of your options and turn it into a pick
— Location — to know what's actually nearby when you ask where to eat
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the GDPR, we process data based on: performance of a contract (providing the App's core functionality), legitimate interest (keeping the App working reliably and improving it), and, where applicable, your consent (for optional features such as notifications, camera, or location access).
5. Third-Party Processors
We rely on Apple (App Store, CloudKit, push notifications) to deliver and operate the App, and may use privacy-respecting hosting or crash-reporting infrastructure. In addition, Hunch specifically uses: Anthropic (Claude) — to read your photos and generate a pick with its reasoning; Google Places — to look up nearby options when you ask for suggestions; Supabase — to store your taste profile and decision history so Hunch's picks improve over time. These providers process data only as needed to provide their service and under their own privacy terms.
6. Data Retention
Data stored locally on your device or in your personal iCloud account is retained until you delete the App or the relevant data yourself. Where a feature stores data with a processor listed above (such as a taste profile), it is retained only as long as your account with that feature is active, and deleted on request.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to receive your data in a portable format, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Since most data stays on your device, your own iCloud account, or the processors listed above, the simplest way to exercise most of these rights is to delete the App or its data directly, or contact us to request deletion.
8. International Transfers
Where a third-party provider processes data outside the EU/EEA (for example, Apple's or Anthropic's global infrastructure), this is done under that provider's own applicable safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Children's Privacy
Hunch is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date below.
